Although global policy plays a very important part, José García y Más is not a political painter in any narrow sense, the emphasis of his critical-realistic artwork is rather more on the problematic social issues of the day, on environments, on cultural & literary themes: the point is made by means of alienation, irony & wit, often in a macabre, at times even corny-joke manner. The scenario of his canvases is determined by an intensive & radiant use of colour, restricted to few essential figures, with a poster-like intensity.
