top sketchworks-7

My series Sketchworks are an expression of abstract art inspired by jazz improvisation. I listen to jazz and sketch with pencil or pen in black and white and let the melodies and harmonies and chord changes influence my sketching. Every note of an improvised solo is reflected in the marks I make on paper. I try to give visual form to the audio expressions I hear. Whether I’m listening to Traditional jazz, Standards, Cool jazz, Bebop, Hard Bop, Ballads, all styles can be recognized in Sketchworks. Available for purchase at:

top Geo-Ab-digi-3 copy

My series Geo-Ab-Digi, is an abbreviation of Geometric Abstract Digital Fine Art. With this series I use abstract styles influenced by both music and Fabulist short story fiction with a little hint of Chicago Imagist style thrown in from time to time. Geometric and organic shapes interact floating above random, textural backgrounds in layers. Within each composition is a subtle narrative being played out like passages or chapters in short story fiction. The combination of these influences create a beguiling and intriguing visual experience for the viewer. Available for purchase at:

top Talisman Green 1

My Series Talisman Heads is an evolution of my series Totem Heads. Still influenced by African Masks and Moai Monoliths, I pushed the stylization further. Incorporating more abstract geometry into the facial features, I elevated the image mystic. The bright pallet used in rendering these characters adds to their presence where ever they are displayed. top Totem-Head-Green-1

My series Totem Heads is influenced by African Masks and Moai Monolithic heads of Easter Island. They are stylistic rendering of imaginary mystical faces. The basic sketches are done by hand and then the coloration is done digitally. The idea took form while I doodled in the margins of notebooks, later to evolve into individual characters. If you find yourself talking to them, don’t be surprised if they answer back.
